This is a really solid basic unit, especially for seeing topography and water temperatures. It certainly does show fish and all of that good stuff but can ’ t really use it for targeting fish because once it shows up they ’ re behind the boat you ’ re not exactly sure how far back they may have swam away anyway, however, it is really good for targeting lots of biologic activity because that ’s where you catch the fish like where there ’s bait fish like swarms a fish. You can usually think they ’ ll be some larger fish there that you can target

While I 've only had three opportunities to fish with this locator since I 've purchased it, it seems to perform very well. I particularly like the clarity of the screens and the split screen option. The clarity on the flasher screen is so much better than a traditional flasher unit. It does have great separation capabilities. The lure charge function is really handy. Especially after my buddy dropped his lure charging flash light down the hole! I also like the automatic transducer angle selection of the unit. I must admit I would like an even wider transducer angle for shallow water applications. I do still have much to learn about this product. To that end, I do wish a detailed operations manual was included. I am looking forward to discovering its full capabilities and applications. The Helix 7 with GPS, Mega down imaging, and Mega side imaging has been a phenomenal addition to my kayak fishing. I no longer feel like I am fishing blindly in the winter when the fish go deep. The `` Mega '' provides extremely detailed views of submerged structure, bottom composition, vegetation, and identify fish well beyond what I imagined possible with this unit. The included Humminbird Basemaps have helped me navigate some of the larger lakes, and the autochart live feature has enabled me to create my own maps of the smaller local lakes I fish. Installation was pretty straightforward. The Helix 7 user interface is friendly. There are numerous videos on YouTube to help you install the Helix 7, navigate the menus and I interpret the maps.

Only used my helix 9 four times so far. The cursor sometimes jumps 3 or 4 contour when trying to follow the contour, then sometimes indexes smoothly about 1/2 contour line at a time the way it should. Today I checked the water temperature and my Helix said it was 188 degrees and changing rapidly in the range of 195 to 175 degrees!!! I 'd been on the water for about 3 hours. It eventually fixed itself and read 46. 7 degrees which was probably correct! Not too happy so far, we 'll see!?!?

In the last year I switched electronic brands and chose to put all Humminbirds in my boat. Personally I like the visibility of the screens better. My transducer is mounted on back of the boat, so I anchor and then drop my jig near the back of the boat. I can see the fish come in to inspect the lure, I would almost always catch a fish once I saw one on the screen. I really love the detail and I 've been using pallette 13 split with downscan as recommended. from a few friends. Most recently, I used the unit to troll for walleye, it clearly marks suspended off the bottom and has made my fishing experience more enjoyable!

I bought a 2023 Tahoe 185s with the fishing package on it and it has this model trolling motor on it with a Lowrance hook 2 4x fish finder at the trolling motor and my question is what other fish finder unit can I replace it with that will hook up to the same wire connection coming from the motor? And I would like to know if I can hook up a foot pedal to it Cabela ’s where I bought it from said I could.

This is for Kayak fishing but add the track to a board and your open water Garmin transducer to the arm and you have a year round sonar. Without an arm like this the standard transducer cable is too stiff to keep the transducer pointing straight down which is critical when in flasher mode.

I purchased this locator in May of this year. It was easy to install and worked out of the box. I installed a cut off switch between the battery cable and the positive line to make sure the GPS was not drawing power when not in use. This is the first Lowrance unit I owned that I did n't have to constantly make adjustments to get good readings. I can turn it on and concentrate on catching fish.

Your single page instructions were n't very thorough as to dealing with this situation, and several other necessary tactics to operate this thing. Went to the net, to Lowrance academy. com. That website covers most everything to do with this model locater. With the websites help I figured quite a bit more on how to use this machine... Now to use this locater and chart is a real pleasure. All the charts are so detailed. The adjustments are pretty simple.( now) Looking forward to using it up on our Canadian trips.... FRED

[ Takes a bit of time to install if you need a battery box as well but once it is together the two items are really solid and easy to use. Only suggestion is a lock that will hold the transducer up in the air and keep it in place while moving the kayak into and out of the water.

I consider myself a very avid and advanced Walleye angler. I have Lowrance Elite Ti2 units. I have a 19' Deep V Aluminum boat with a 24v system. I upgraded from an Xi5 to the Ghost. The power is amazing, and very accurate and quiet. Crashing and holding in big water is where the Ghost shines. The biggest advantage is the battery life! I no longer have to charge each night! 3 days of non stop fishing in 20+ mph winds and my battery life was still on high, and fishing a 3mph river current as well! Incredible!. Very expensive and I debated for about a year due to the price. I do not regret the purchase one bit. It's not for everyone, but if you are a serious fisherman, you will not be disappointed. If you do not have newer Lowrance MFDs, you will lose some features.
