Looks good, feels good, balanced weight, at the hand; I am NOT an expert, but I do have some experience in making machetes, when I was in South America, my father's factory, a good experience overall. I used to use the machines to cut, assemble the machetes parts together, and then, try to sharpen, the final machete, for use. I have seen many machetes, and tried many variations of a machete; The Nepal Version, Kukri Design, used in this machete, is a good choice, for green vegetation cutting, and other stuff. Also very versatile with its saw blade, which is good for sawing through branches. Even though it ’s the “ junior ” it ’s a decent sized blade, but still lightweight and very easy to carry. [ I 'm really impressed by everything made by Gerber, they make quality tools and top notch materials. This Jr Machete is nothing short of fantastic. The blade is both sharp and honed to a great edge. The other side of the blade is a saw style blade that really bites into the surface you 're cutting. It has tremendous versatility from chopping branches and light brush to sawing small limb and trees. I 'm really impressed with the sheath that comes with the blade. It protects the blade and more over helps the user from cutting themselves. The handle is soft and makes for easy gripping while the rope handle let's you have another layer of protection in case the machete slips out of your hand. I 'd highly recommend this tool for anyone going camping or hunting. It's small enough to hide under your seat or in your backpack.

I bought one Gerber Strong Arm( FDE) and liked how useful it was that I bought another in Black. As a former Marine who is used to carrying a KaBar, the Strong Arm is more useful to me. I like the shorter blade, the grip, and the pommel. I sometimes like to Scout Carry a fixed blade and the Gerber Strong Arm is a great knife for that type of carry.

This is a solid and well- crafted knife, comparable in quality to knives costing many times more. As a former Army medic I can appreciate the rescue features as well. The blade is razor sharp and I have n't yet had the need to sharpen. It took a little practice but I can now easily and smoothly open with one hand, left or right. I am so impressed with this knife I just ordered the 2. 0 version to keep in one of my cars. Only caveat, I 've seen some demos showing how the safety belt cutter is n't very effective. That may, in fact, be true, but the serrated edge of the razor- sharp blade is more than up to the task. This is only a good knife for crossing border into Canada which I do a lot of and where many knives are banned and where no knife can be carried for the primary intent of self- defense. The rescue and safety features of this knife help legitimize it.
